Asymmetrical System for Language Exchange
My students are all over the web having conversations with native speakers of Spanish. What if we could host everything on SLATE? And what if we didn't just limit the languages to Spanish and English?
International classes/teachers/students and other SDP schools collaborating with SLA would each create a login and profile (admin approved).
Interface Possibilities:
-mircroblog
-click 'me gusta' for interesting updates, informs homepage feed
-asymmetrical system (like Twitter - you can follow someone's updates with them following your own)
-groups made up of a mix of native speakers and learners of two specific languages
-chat
-video and audio enabled
-chat transcript automatically saved and sent to language teacher
-option to save video and/or audio to post on profile with tags
-wordreference.com button on chat screen for quick look-up
-journal (similar to Facebook's notes)
-editing tools for language partners to make comments, corrections
-language badges for languages spoken visible on profile
-eventually incorporate ACTFL guidelines for rating?
-forums
-wiki
-scheduling component for chats or group presentations
